This is my first week for the Mamatography Photo Challenge with Diary of a First Child. This is a short edition since we began on New Year’s Day. I did not get very good shots this time around but I am happy that I did take a photo each day. We were told the highest drop out point is 21 days and that it also takes that long to form a habit. So I’m counting on all of you to cheer me on so I’ll keep going!
This first image was of my family chatting on Skype with my Nana and Aunt in the UK. My Nana has never met Little Man and has only seen him in photos or heard him (briefly) over the phone. She was completely amazed that she was talking to us through the computer and could see us at the same time. It was also my Dad’s birthday so she did not want to know she had a 58 year old son. Her favorite line is “From my legs down I’m 42 and from the neck up I’m 21!”
This was the first day all vacation that we were just us – no visitors or extended family. It was nice to just sit together on the couch. I had tried to get another photo of Little Man holding both of our hands on the couch (it was really precious) but he wouldn’t hold the position long enough for the phone to take the photo. I took this with my new iPhone 4S. I’m not particularly impressed with the forward facing camera quality but it is useful to get Little Man excited about the photo because he can see himself.
This was my shot for today because I returned to work today after the holiday break. Little Man came in around 5 am which was good because I forgot to change the set time on the alarm before I slunk into bed last night at 12:30 am because a certain little boy was fighting bedtime. I was having a dream that I woke after 9 am and wasn’t concerned that I had missed my morning classes. I do love my job – I just really wanted more time with my boys.
I had a lot to do after work and Little Man came with. By the time we got back to the apartment – he was spent.

Your family is so sweet! Good luck with the challenge. I’m cheering you on (from Israel)!
Thanks! I think you may be the furthest reader I’ve had. I hope you continue to enjoy our photos.
Awww he’s so cute! Good thing he woke you up! Sometimes those early morning wakeups can be useful
I get not so secretly disappointed when he doesn’t wake up with me. I love morning snuggles. Today it was 5 AM. The hubs wasn’t as excited since he wasn’t ready to get up himself.
I LOVE the Skype photo. I owe a huge debt to the makers of Skype – it’s the way Ameli has gotten to know and stayed in touch with all my family. It’s awesome. And when she ‘saw’ them for the first time in the flesh, she was so comfortable with them, because she was used to their faces and voices. It was pretty incredible!
Love the photos, and CHEER CHEER CHEER! You can do it
Luschka – We had a similar experience with my parents. They live in the south and he knew them right away and it really made my mom’s day to hear him call her Nana in person. I do wish that I could see my Nana more often. She was a huge part of my life growing up but she doesn’t get up to my Aunt’s often enough. But I completely agree Skype is one of the greatest inventions of the 21st century. All of us isolated family-types can make it through with the video chat.
Skype has changed the face of grandparenthood I think! We use it constantly and my parents only live an hour away!
I really love the pic of the three of you. I might need to copy that pose!
Awww…love the one in the car – and the story of your Nana! Thanks for sharing!
I love your family photo! You look so happy to be together. I hope going back to work wasn’t too hard to settle into and you’re feeling well!
Your Skype photo shot made me chuckle! We use Skype a lot to talk to my sister in Florida – my 2 year old loves Skype!
Oh! I can’t wait to use Skype to talk to my dad with the kids. He & my stepmother are in Panama until the weather warms up around here. My little guy has talked on the phone with them, but the whole Skype thing is going to blow his mind!
I love the last photo. The subject and the artistic quality!
What a lovely post! Skype was a blessing when my FIL who lives 3000 miles away was dying. He loved talking to his grandchild and seeing her toddle around the room.
this sounds really neat
